Alfonso Albert Garcia Sr., 94 of Hanamaulu passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 12, 2024. He was born October 27, 1929 on Kauai, Hawaii.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ayako Taira Garcia; children, Jo Ann (Robert) Hema, Christine (Mark Sr.) Watten, Peggy (Patrick) Labuguen and Candice (Will) Ancheta, brother, Juan (Loretto) Garcia and Benjamin (Gwen) Garcia; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gabino and Cristina Dela Cruz Garcia, his children, Glenda (Jon) Buis and Alfonso Albert Garcia Jr. and his brother Marcellino, Bonifacio (Magdalena) Garcia and sisters, Magdalena (Hermogenes) Romero, Emiteria (Antero) Nerpio.
He worked for the gas company on Kauai for 36 years before retiring as Operations Supervisor. He served in the United States Army and the Army National Guard and retired as a staff Sergeant serving during the Korean War and saw active combat in the Vietnam War. He was active in various Veterans groups and in several Community groups including the Lihue Senior Center and the Agency on Elderly Affairs as a volunteer.
A celebration of Alfonso’s life will be held on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Kauai Veterans Center in Lihue with visitation from 9:00 a.m. and services at 10:00. Burial will follow at Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe at 1:00 p.m. Aloha attire suggested.
