Donald Satoshi Shimamoto, 78, of Kapa’a passed away on October 8, 2023 at Straub Medical Center in Honolulu. He was born on August 7, 1945 in Lihue. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam 1966-1968. He was the Building Maintenance Supervisor, when he retired in Dec. 2000 from the Department of Accounting and General Services State of Hawaii after 26 years of employment.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kristy Shimamoto; parents, Seiichi and Misao Shimamoto; parents-in-law, Joseph Lei, Jr. and Sheila Viela.; sister-in-law, JoAnn Shimamoto; brother-in-law, Roy Takahashi and niece, Lena Takahashi.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sharlene Shimamoto; daughter, Renae (Thomas) Benjamin; granddaughters, Kierstyn Benjamin and Mackenzie Benjamin; brothers, Alan (Sharon) Shimamoto and Patrick Shimamoto; sister, Karen Takahashi, sister-in-law, Ione (Kirk) Brown; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may visit with the family on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Garden Island Mortuary Chapel in Lawa’i from 9:00 a.m.- 9:45 a.m. where a celebration of life will be at 10:00 a.m. Burial to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.
