Douglas Abran, 76, of Waimea, Kaua’i passed away at his residence on August 8, 2023. He was born on July 31, 1947, in Haina, Hawai’i. He worked as a Liliko tractor operator and factory mechanic at the former Hāmākua Sugar Company before moving to Kaua’i where he worked and retired from the Kaua’i Lagoons Golf Course. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army receiving a Bronze Star Medal and an Army Commendation Medal for Heroism.
He was preceded in death by parents Attie Flores Abran and Pedro Abran, daughter Jaylan Abran, sister Rose Abran and brother Robert “Bobby” Abran Sr.
He is survived by son Dasan (Leimomi) Abran of Hilo, daughter Maelan (Bryant) Azevedo of Hilo; grandson Joshua Abran of Hilo; sisters Frances Alpiche of Honoka’a, Suzanne Tamashiro of Honoka’a, Virginia Kaneao of Waikoloa, Shirley Kirkwood of Illinois, Dolores Sharp of Washington, Attie (Randal) Millare of Kona and brother Ronald (Val) Abran of Kapulena; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service to honor his life on Kaua’i will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at the Westside Christian Center Church in Kekaha. Visitation is from 10-11:00am with service to follow.
A celebration of life will be held on the Big Island of Hawai’i on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at the Honoka’a United Methodist Church. Visitation is from 10:00am-11:00am with service to follow.
