Elsie Taeko Takata, born on May 19, 1933 in Hanamaulu, passed away in her sleep on April 29, 2021 at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She was a very active ILWU member while employed at Kauai Surf, later Westin Kauai and into her senior years.
Preceded in death by her son Dayne Obatake, daughter-in-law Cheryl Lovell-Obatake, parents Asakichi & Taka Nakamoto, brothers Hajime “Jimmy” Nakamoto, Dyna “Haruo” Nakamoto, Richard “Masato” Nakamoto, Haruki “Dukie” Nakamoto & Wallace “Bull” Nakamoto, sister Nancy “Namiko” Ishizaki.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Samuel (Sam) Takata, sons Jimmy Obatake, Randy (Apryle) Obatake, Alden (Anki) Takata, daughter Marlene (Earl) Morton, daughter-in-law Gwen Saiki, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great-grandson, 1 sister Katherine “Kay” Higa (Oahu) and beloved pet Kira.
A celebration of Life will be announced and held at a later time due to Covid-19 restrictions and concerns.
