Kathryn Katsuko Hiramoto passed peacefully at home on Dec 21, 2025 at the age of 97.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tatsumi Hiramoto, parents Shigeo and Ritsu Nishimura, and sisters Helen Nishimura and Lillian Nishimura.
She is survived by daughter Sheree (Ron) Wek, grandchildren Andrew (Julia) Wek and Kristen Wek, great granddaughter Amelia Wek and sister Jeanette Seo.
Kathryn was born in Huleia, Kauai. She attended Kauai High School graduating in 1946. Kathryn received her bachelor’s and fifth year in early childhood education from the University of Hawaii Manoa. She spent the next 32 years as a kindergarten teacher for Kapaa Elementary School. She was passionate about teaching and found joy in watching her students develop.
She remained active in retirement using her skills as an educator to tutor adult readers, volunteer at Kapaa School and Wilcox Hospital. One of her greatest joys was establishing a retiree group at Kapaa United Church of Christ with Tatsumi dedicated to faith and service to others.
A Celebration of Life will take place on March 28, 2026 at Kapaa United Church of Christ.
10:00am visitation followed by service at 11:00am.
Casual aloha attire and no kodan is requested.
