Kenneth Keith Cox

Kenneth Keith Cox, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, returned to his heavenly home on Friday, August 12, 2022. He passed peacefully in his Kauai, Hawaii home following declining health associated with age. Kenneth, who went by Kenny, was born May 31, 1940 in Saint George, Utah, to Kenneth LaVon Cox and Anna Ida Farrer Cox. He married Glenna Lou Jorgensen Bryson on February 26, 1963, in the Manti LDS Temple.

Kenny and Glenna had seven children together and raised their family in Northern and then later in Southern Utah.  They were together in this life for thirty-nine happy years until Glenna’s death in 2002. Thereafter, Kenny met Jan Burton Sorenson and married her on September 27, 2003, in the St George LDS Temple, settling together in Kauai, Hawaii. 

Kenny was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He lived a life full of service and left behind an example of how to love and care for others. He served in many callings in the church including scouting, ward clerk, counselor in his local bishopric, and years as a faithful home teacher.  He sang in his church choir for most of his life and often sang solos and duets for church events   As a youth, he served a two-year mission for the LDS church in southern California. He and his wife, Jan, later served for five years as missionaries with the LDS Addiction Recovery Program in Hawaii.  Kenny had a Christlike heart and touched many lives through his unconditional love and service.

Kenny was very talented and possessed many skills which he was able to use throughout life to support his family and help and bless many lives. In high school he ran track.  He was an auto mechanic, a woodworker, a welder, and a plumber. He was also a communications expert in the Army National Guard serving at Camp Williams, Utah and Fort Ord, California having reached the rank of Sergeant. Kenny was a serial entrepreneur. He began working as a furniture builder and soon thereafter opened and operated his own custom furniture store in Salt Lake City called Designer’s Den.  After he moved his family to Southern Utah to be closer to his roots, he founded his own wood-burning stove business: Sherwood Stoves, where he designed, built, and installed wood-burning stoves throughout the tri-state area. One of his proudest accomplishments was obtaining a US patent for a “wood and coal burning heating unit” (Patent No 4,328,784) in 1982.  He later sold his stove business and started Alpine Water Systems, selling and installing water softeners.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Jan Cox of Kauai, Hawaii and his children David Troy Cox of St. Louis, Missouri; Daniel Todd (Heather) Cox of Las Vegas, Nevada; Michael Trent (Mary) Cox of Belleville, Illinois; Julianna Elizabeth Cox of Flagstaff, Arizona; Amanda Ruth (Joel) Mortensen of Payson, Utah; Melissa Jean (Greg) Kleinman of Toquerville, Utah; and Benjamin Tyler (Laura) Cox of Panquitch, Utah;  eighteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, siblings Donna (Blaine) Hiatt, Genevieve (Keros) Brown, Ernest Cox, Hilda (Bruce) Empey, Leonard (Sandra) Cox, LaMonte (Tina) Cox; sister-in-law Jeannie (Tony) Jones, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his first love and wife, Glenna Lou Cox, his parents, Kenneth LaVon Cox and Anna Ida Farrer Cox, grandson Kevin Feather, and brother Arthur Bruce Cox.
