Lindsay Anton Faye, Jr., affectionately known as Tony, passed away peacefully at his home in Kōloa, Kaua‘i, on May 16, 2025, at the age of 92, surrounded by family. He was born on December 26, 1932 on the island Kaua‘i at Waimea Hospital to Lindsay A. Faye, Sr. and Gertrude Leilani Scott, and was the fourth child and only son.
Tony began his education at the Normal School in Makaweli, later attending Waimea and Kekaha Elementary Schools. He attended Punahou School and completed high school at Choate School for Boys in Wallingford, Connecticut. He started college at Stanford University and was drafted into the army towards the end of the Korean war. He returned to the mainland to complete his degree in agriculture at the University of California, Davis. During those years, he spent summers working on his uncle’s farm in California.
He went on to work at plantations across the Hawaiian Islands before becoming manager at Līhu‘e Plantation. In 1992, just weeks before Hurricane ‘Iniki, he retired from Kekaha Sugar after 35 years of dedicated service with Amfac. Not yet ready to fully retire, he continued his work with Kikiaola Land Company until 1998.
Tony was a dedicated community leader who served on numerous boards and commissions, including the United Way, Wilcox Hospital, Kaua‘i Veterans Memorial Hospital, and the Grove Farm Homestead Museum.
He will be lovingly remembered for his passion for agriculture. Friends and family were often treated to an enthusiastic tour and history of his carefully tended yard. Tony enjoyed a competitive game of cribbage and playing the ‘ukulele at dinner parties with friends. A lifelong traveler, he explored remote destinations like Rapa Nui and Antarctica, always documenting his adventures in detail. He shared vivid stories of his childhood growing up on Kaua‘i, especially during the World War II years.
Above all, Tony was a kind, hardworking, and steadfast husband, father, and friend.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane “Willi” Guslander Faye; sisters Mary Ballantine and Anna Thiele; and daughters Carrie Faye and Callie (Steve) Thurman.
He is survived by his sister, Linda Collins; daughters Christine Faye, Diane (Greg Hawk) Faye, and Lindsay (Jon Lucas) Faye; grandchildren Lokelau Kalawaia, Hoku‘au Faye, Hine Pi‘imauna-Faye, Lawaia Faye, Aaron Thurman, Deacon Hawk, Griffin Hawk, and Charles Lucas; and great-grandchildren Kalaika Kahunanui-Kalawaia, Kanale Kahunanui-Kalawaia, Kiani Kahunanui-Kalawaia, Kileia Kahunanui-Kalawaia, Alamea Pi‘imauna-Ratkowski, and Kilohana Thurman.
