Murray C. Hudson of Princeville, Kauai passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024 at Wilcox Hospital surrounded by his devoted family. Born October 12, 1928 in Breckenridge, Texas. Murray served overseas in the United States Navy during World War II and was awarded with the WW II Victory Medal. Following his military service, Murray graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas as a Petroleum Engineer.
Murray retired as President of Esso China Ltd. (Exxon) after 35 years of service spanning six countries including Benghazi, Libya, Melbourne, Australia, Jakarta, Indonesia, Singapore, Rangoon, Burma and Guangzhou, China. He conducted drilling exploration in these six countries involving 150 offshore wells where doubled oil production and made important oil discoveries.
Known for his positive and lasting relationships with the employees under his management, he developed home ownership programs, creating and maintaining excellent morale among those in various countries where he served.
Among his many community projects, following Hurricane Iniki, Murray volunteered to assist those in need by restoring many public areas, including his work with Habitat for Humanity to rebuild a home in Hanalei. For two years he faithfully delivered Meals on Wheels to families from Hanalei to Wainiha. As an active Lions member he repaired bus stops, built park benches, and even mowed the Hanalei Lookout for several years. Murray also selflessly managed his neighborhood Sunset Drive Community Association for 27 years. In addition, he served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Wednesday Golf Club at Wailua Golf Course for numerous years. Murray never looked for accolades for his many years of good deeds.
Survived by his devoted wife of 40 years Sabina; sons, Roy (Chris) of Austin, Texas, Dan (Anabelle) of South Carolina, Jon (Mike) of St. Louis; four grandchildren, Daniel, Ashley (Kyle), Jonathan (Jessica), Sam (Sarah); great-grand twins Hayes & Luka and step-children, Perry (Fonda), Sherrie (Richard), granddaughters Angeline and Ashley.
Ceremony with Military Honors is scheduled for October 12, 2024 (Murray’s 96th Birthday) at Kauai Veterans Cemetery, Hanapepe at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hawaii Parkinson Association, 2228 Liliha St, Suite 206, Honolulu, HI 96817.
