Peter Paul Rayno “Rip”, 83, passed away at his home in Lihue on July 18, 2023. He was born on Kauai on November 1st and was raised in Hanamaulu.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Beatrice Rayno, daughter, Roxi Makena and brother, James “Cashim” Amorin.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Joy (Kerry) Nuivo of Lihue, grandchildren Brad “Pekelo” (Tara) Dettloff of Oahu, Ryndie “Luana” (Gabriel) Sarsona of Idaho, Lyle “Kilika” (Jennie) Dettloff of Washington, Angela “Kashmir” Cleveland Makena Rayno, Kolton “Makana” Medeiros, Chanler “Aikane” Medeiros all of Lihue, one brother Gene (Marilyn “Tootsie”) Rayno of Lihue, one sister, Matilda “Matty” (Amorin) Baldovino of Washington, sister-in-law, Maggie Amorin of Hanamaulu. He was also survived by five great-grandchildren.
Peter attended Hanamaulu School and graduated from Kauai High School in 1958. He was an athlete, coached multiple sports including baseball, softball, basketball, and football, and was a referee. He worked for the Lihue Plantation Company until its closure, Kauai Surf and Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School up until the end of the 2022-2023 school year. He volunteered much of his time for the Kauai community.
Funeral services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church on Friday, August 18th. Visitation from 8:00 am, Mass at 10:00 am, burial to follow at the Catholic Cemetery.
