Obituary notice

Peter J. Somers, age 80, of Kilauea, passed away peacefully at his home on March 12, 2026. Peter grew up in Cape May, NJ. During much of the 1970’s, he worked in yacht sales and marina operations at Cape Island Marina in Cape May. In the late 1970’s, he founded AFIRMS, an accounting software company, which served educational institutions and municipalities around the country. In the mid-80s, he moved his business operations to the North Shore of Kauai, where he spent decades of his life. He enjoyed volunteering at Shared Blessings Thrift Shop operated by Christ Memorial Church in Kilauea. Over his lifetime, he lived many places, including: Summit, NJ; The Hague, Netherlands; Cape May, NJ; Reno, NV; Wainiha, HI; Charlottesville, VA; Wellington, New Zealand; Salem, OR; and Kilauea, HI

                He is survived by his son, David, his former wife, Phyllis, his brother, Dick, three granddaughters, Juliana, Anika, and Ellie, a niece (Laura Horvath) and a nephew (Rich). In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing may donate to the Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Kilauea or the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. A memorial service will be held July 2, 2026, at the Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, Kilauea, HI.
