Phyllis Paler Obituary

Phyllis Ann Paler passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31, at 2:40am at her residence in Wailua, Kauai. Born on November 30, 1940 in Ligonier, Indiana, she was the beloved daughter of George Sr. and Pauline "Polly" (Huss) Moser. On August 21, 1960, in Ligonier, she married Vernon Modesto Paler.

Phyllis maintained strong bonds with her family, cherishing her brothers and sisters. Her innate ability to reach out with perfectly timed words of comfort and wisdom endeared her to all. She had an innate sense of a loved one facing difficulties and needing her loving support and guidance.

Phyllis battled cancer since 2009, with resolute determination until the very end. After raising her family in Indiana for 34 years, Phyllis and Vernon embarked on a new chapter in 1994 when they retired from their roles in the educational community and relocated to Kauai, Hawaii.

Phyllis is survived by her three adoring daughters: Pamela Carlson (Barry Power) of Elkhart, IN; Vanessa (Mike) DuBois of Elkhart, IN; and Michelle (George) Salvador of Wailua, Kauai. Her legacy also includes eight cherished grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is fondly remembered by her five brothers: George (Sharon) Moser, Gregg (Diane) Moser, Richard Moser, Kent (Janet) Moser, and Brent (Cindy) Moser; and four sisters: Thelma (Wayne) Bryant, Gwendolyn Dallman, Dorothy (John) Feltner, and Denice (James) Apple. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, three sisters: Marlene Kimmel, Diana Christner, and Carolyn Ridenour; and two brothers: Carl Moser Sr. and Howard Moser.

In addition to her three beloved daughters, Phyllis leaves behind a lasting legacy through the countless students she taught during her tenure with the Elkhart Community Schools in Indiana and at Kapaa Elementary School in Kapaa, Kauai.

Phyllis was an active member of Lihue United Methodist Church, finding solace and purpose in her faith. Her passion for gardening was evident in her lush orchids and tropical blooms, while her skillful sewing produced a multitude of blankets that she lovingly shared with friends and family. Phyllis's generous spirit, boundless love for her family, and unwavering commitment to her community have left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Phyllis Paler's life was a testament to the enduring power of love, support, and resilience. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
