Presentacion “Connie” Navales Maglasang, 90, of Koloa, Kauai, passed away peacefully at home in Koloa on July 18, 2024. She was born November 21, 1933 to Sylveria and Julian Gonzales, while the family lived at Korean Camp on Koloa Sugar Plantation. After High School, Connie moved to Honolulu and lived with her sister Rosenda Laborte, and attended sewing school. While in Honolulu, she met her husband-to-be, Loretto “Charlie” Navales at the Hawaii Theater. She returned to Kauai where they married and settled first on the plantation with family and then built their own house in Koloa.
She was a waitress at several well-known establishments in Koloa and Poipu like Tahiti Long House, Sheraton Hotel, Poipu Beach Hotel and Waiohai, where she met some of her closest lifelong friends like Priscilla Kua, Eileen Rita, Una Mae Kuhlman, Connie Makaneole, Yolanda Herklotz, Frances Wong, and Bonnie Ka’ana’ana.
Sadly, Charlie passed away in 1984. Ten years later, she met and married Edward Maglasang and moved to Gardena, Calif., across the street from her sister Helena Balalong, and just down the street from another sister, Flora Pasatiempo. They spent twenty-seven happy years together in LA, and then in 2021, Eddie passed away and Connie moved back to her home in Koloa with daughter Lori until her passing this year on July 18, 2024.
Connie is preceded by her husband Loretto “Charlie” Navales, second husband Edward Maglasang, and son Les Navales.
She is survived by sons, Michael (Joan) Navales, Wendall "Pope" Navales; daughters, Charlene (Chris) Gammerino, Lori (Shui) Navales; Hanai daughter, LaFrance Bergonia; Grandchildren: Nicholas "Kali" Navales, Michelle Tupou, Charles Nelson, Allen Meafua, Adam Meafua, Anthony Gammerino, Wailana Blackstad; Hanai granddaughters, Jemme Haupt and Kaisha. Great-Grandchildren: Luciano Navales, Hana Navales, Timote Tupou, Waileia Tupou, Kamalu Tupou, Brandon Nelson, Makana Nelson, Kashton Gammerino, Kaeden Gammerino, Paxton Gammerino, Fox Gammerino, Ezben Meafua, Kahanu Blackstad, Wehilani Blackstad; sister, Helena Balalong, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024; Visitation: 9:00 to 10:00 am; Services: 10:00 to 11:00 am at Kauai Memorial Gardens, 4716 Maalo Rd, Lihue, (near Kapaia), HI. A graveside burial will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 10:00 am at the same location.
