Sarah Ulunani “Ulu” Hoomanawanui of Anahola passed away on May 8, 2024 at the age of 86. She was born in Wainiha, Kauai on August 5, 1937 and worked as a bus driver for Akita Enterprises.
She is preceded in passing by her loving husband Norman Hoomanawanui Sr.; father, Edward Keoua Puulei of Wainiha; mother Nancy Malia Hanohano Piilani of Wainiha; stepfather, Peter K. Piilani Sr. of Wainiha; sons, Richard Puulei and Hiram Kelii; sister, Charlotte Hoomanawanui; brothers, Edward Jr., William, and Henry.
Ulu is survived by her daughters, Gwendolyn Iwalani (Tita) Hoomanawanui, MonaLisa Maile (Randy) Boyer. Melveen Leilani Hoomanawanui, Norma Jean Kawehilani Hoomanawanui; and Belinda Chandler and Sara Asaoka; sons, Norman Jr. (Davilyn), Leroy Kanaloa (Jordan) Hoomanawanui and Paul Poomaihealani; brother, Ivan Kaipoleimanu Piilani; sister, Jane Kinzie; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren with one in the oven; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
