Stephen G. Wieczorek

Steve passed away peaceably on January 2, 2025 in his home in Lihue, Hawaii where he and his wife, Judy, live. He was 84 years old.

A native of Chicago, Illinois, Steve enlisted in the Navy soon after he graduated from a Jesuit high school. While in the Navy, Steve was an Electronics Technician and served in the Submarine Service on several diesel submarines where he earned his Silver Dolphins. In 1961, he entered the Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) and after 9 months was sworn in as a Midshipman at the US Naval Academy, Class of 1966. During the four years there, he distinguished himself as a scholar and athlete. He was very proud of the friendships he developed there which continued throughout his entire life.

After graduation in June 1966, Steve attended Nuclear Power School and subsequently earned his Gold Dolphins while serving on a nuclear attack submarine. After four years, Steve left active duty and served as a civil servant in the Department of the Navy where he ultimately served as Head of the Silencing Division at Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) for 18 years. He then was employed at Bell Laboratories for 10 years where he worked on projects involving stealth technologies.

In 1998, Steve relocated to Tempe, Arizona and in 2011 met his soul-mate, Judy Moore, whom he married in 2015. They lived in Arizona until July 2024 when they moved to Lihue, Hawaii. In addition to Judy, her daughter, Shannon, son-in-law, Gary and their son, Koa, Steve is survived by a daughter, Marti and a son, Stephen, Jr., from a previous marriage which ended in 1980.

A very religious man who "walked the walk", Steve's wishes were to be cremated and to have his ashes returned to the Pacific in a private ceremony.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday February 22, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church with services beginning at 10:00 am.
