Remembering the Life of Teresa de Jesus Hernandez Barbachano
Teresa de Jesus Hernandez Barbachano closed her eyes for the last time on earth on December 20, 2023, in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii at the age of 96.
Her legacy is marked by her kind words, good deeds, and Christian values, which touched many people throughout her fruitful life.
Teresa was born on October 14, 1927, in San Agustin, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the eldest of nine children, born to Secundino Hernandez Gonzales and Maria Valadez de Hernandez. She spent her early years in Guadalajara and later moved to Tijuana, Baja California, where she gained expertise in hairdressing, couture, secretarial and accounting studies.
Life Journey of Teresa Barbachano:
Teresa Barbachano, who married Lubin Barbachano in 1954 in California, soon moved to New York where their children Marta and Eva were born. The family grew with the births of Mary and Ana after they moved to Puerto Rico. They lived in various countries before settling in Gilroy, California, in 1977. There, Teresa worked as a Teacher's Aid, teaching pre-kindergarten to high school students. After Lubin's death, she relocated to Ohio to work at a Biblical research and teaching center before returning to California a few years later.
A World Traveler:
Encouraged by the people she met throughout her travels and work, she embarked on a solo journey to several European countries including Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Austria. Reuniting with people she hadn't seen in years, she experienced a private nighttime tour of Paris, leisurely floated down Amsterdam's canals, admired the beauty of Venice, Rome, and Barcelona. This trip remained one of her most cherished memories.
Her Life Verse~
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
Missionary at Heart:
Relocating to Kauai after retiring from her job in Gilroy in 1998, she found purpose in helping her granddaughter, Mariana. Additionally, she worked as a Teacher's Aide in the School District while joining the Kauai Prison Ministry and Hospital Ministry. Together with a devoted group of believers, she shared God's Word, played the ukulele, and sang to inmates and the sick.
Spreading the Word of God and His love was always her passion, and she was a proud member of a group of ladies known as "The Golden Girls". Every week, they would come together, sing, pray and enjoy each other's company.
The virtuous woman:
Proverbs 31:10 Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies
Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the wonderful, loving and virtuous mother that God blessed us with. Although we will miss her dearly, we take comfort in knowing that she now awaits the return of Jesus Christ. We praise God for the promises that offer us hope, peace, joy and love. Let’s continue her legacy.
